What Are Hydrosols?

Hydrosols, also known as hydrolats, are aromatic the gentle giants of aromatherapy. Hydrosols are the aromatic waters produced through steam distillation of botanical matter. While essential oils contain the aromatic lipids of botanical matter, hydrosols contain the water soluble constituents that are not present in the essential oil. Subsequently, hydrosols have different therapeutic properties than essential oils. When used properly, hydrosols are safe for every age demographic. Pure hydrosols are preservative free and perishable. Hydrosols should be replaced yearly and kept refrigerated to preserve their integrity. Please note, floral waters are not the same as hydrosols.
